This bodega is the family home of the renowned and very passionate Alvaro Palacios. Famous for his Priorat wines (L’Ermita, Finca Dofi and Les Terrasses Priorat), he has a number of projects on the go. He makes also the winemaker for Palacios Remondo, as well as another project in Biezro. A busy guy it would seem.
Typical of wines from Rioja Baja, this wine has a higher percentage of Granacha than wines from Rioja Alta or Alavesa. The mix is 40 per cent Granacha, 35 per cent Tempranillo, 15 per cent Mazuelo and 10 per cent Graciano. The wine is aged in French Oak.
A very full on nose of dark fruits, cocoa and a hint of oak. Medium bodied with black cherries and licorice on the palate, tannin is very much evident but not overwhelming. There is certainly oak in the mix, it too is not obtrusive at this stage. With some time in the glass, a juicy fruit component presents itself and the nose has developed some violet type flower notes. Lovely wine. 90 Pts.
