According to the blurb on the front of the bottle, 2005 was the driest year on record in Toro, nothing more than a bit of due to keep the vines going. As with many areas of Europe in 2005, the summer heat didn't make it to the scorching levels of 2003 and allowed for a slow growing period with very concentrated fruit.
Interestingly, the 05 seems to be around a few bucks cheaper than the 04 at the moment.
Very similar in structure to the 04, the wine is dark and inky in the glass with a very forward nose featuring some dark cherry, salami and cola notes. The palate is really where its at with this wine: it has quite a funky, meaty quality that I like, blackberry, a touch of herbs and nice smooth tannins. There is a good bit of acid that keeps the wine feeling fresh and savory. Just a touch better than the 04, a bit more fruit and funk at this stage. 89 Pts

I just tried this with Scott Wasley here in the shop. Yummo! I think it really is good for the price.
I also ordered the Pago La Jara 2003 - fantastic.
I like all of Telmo’s stuff from Toro, some of his best I think. And your right it is great value….
Say hi to Scott for me
I was going to taste this tonight (I tasted it before) but someone poured 2/3 of a full into some 2 day old Longhop grenache to make a full bottle to keep over the weekend. *sigh* Anyway. I had it a while ago. Too meaty for my tastes by half.

I like the meatyness, that is what Toro is all about! The fruit is still fresh (i.e. not stewed prunes etc), its still has balance, and 14% alc. I rikey…:\]
loved it great to see it travels!! was thought to be over priced here in aus at $24 by our fine wine manager but in my opinion worth every scent (pun). i can still see some pouring down my glass after airating it 30 secs ago. the cola characteristics have really come through on the nose and maybe some sour/dried plum to tempt one to the palate where a consistent year of no rain produced outstanding concentration of fruit that linger…..and linger… and linger. strong tannins arent over the top and seem right in their place, upfront but not overpowering. good fruit acid and tannin should see this wine through comfortably for some years im putting one down tomorrow!!
