Monastrell

Bodegas Castano Hecula 2004

img_4849-2This is a vineyard selection of monastrell from Yecla that gets 50% french oak treatment. It’s been given big gongs form the the chaps at the wine advocate as ‘one of the world best wine values’ and a whopping 91 points.  I can see why they like it so much…

This is fairly much textbook monastrell: figs and dark cherry, a little toasty wood, chocolate and earthy spice. Very much open for business on the palate, open weave and well rounded. Drinking well now, but it will hand around for quite a while. The acid is a little on the low side, but that big bold fruit makes a statement all of its own. Sunny, but savoury and food friendly.  88 Pts.

  4. Bump.

Had this a couple of times recently and fully concur re great value. As an import at approx $25 it makes for very smart drinking.
