This wine is always a favorite for me. The 2003 is drinking really well at the moment and will only get better, and for the money there is not a lot of modern Rioja out there that can beat it. The 04 needs a bit of time to sort itself out, plus it was on the ship a couple of weeks ago. However, a good decant and some patience seems to have let me have a good look. As usual, Propiedad is a blend of Garnacha (40%), Tempranillo (35%), Mazuelo (15%) and Graciano (10%) from Rioja Baja. 14 months in French oak.
A warm red in the glass, the nose offers up cherry, cloves, pepper and chocolate, coffee and herby undergrowth. Medium bodied its open and inviting with smooth tannins and very good balance. There is a bit of a hole in the mid palate at the moment, I think this will fill out once the effects of shipping wear off. Still, there are some great flavours here: mulberry, dark cherry, dried herbs, liquorice and white pepper with some iron ore/minerals. If you buy some of this now, let it sit for a couple weeks before cracking one open. 93 Pts.

Dave, can’t wait til I can find it in the States.
I’m curious if you know anything about the bottle labels–I noticed your ’03s had the same label as this ‘04. All of my ’03s look like the ‘01. I dig the new ones; wondering if you know why they were difference.
Love the blog.

They do look a lot better don’t they? I’ve no idea why they are different, they seem to have labeled some of the 03 with this label and some with the old one.
I had another look at this yesterday, looks a lot better now. Updated score and note
Just got this in and have a bottle tucked away for a weekend down the beach this weekend.
Give it a good decant while you sit inside and watch the rain hit the beach and the blue boys beat the Eagles by 3 goals.
umm…yeah… decant the wine anyway.
Will do
